It still boogles my mind that people (who have to get a physical every two years - or six months if their blood pressure isn't under control - and have insurance, so they could have annual check ups) do not know if they have high blood pressure.
There was a time during my early adulthood when I could not afford medical insurance. And I made too much money to get medical check ups from any other source.
So, I did my best to stay healthy.
Let me tell you, once I had insurance I took advantage of the benefits and got my check ups.
This is my body and if I don't take care of it and keep up with maintaining it and know what I am feeding it ... then who else is???
I know how much I weigh, I monitor my blood pressure, I know my medical history.
Before becoming a truck driver I spend several years as a medical technician. For about a year and a half of that time I was an endoscopy technician and part of my job was reviewing patient's medical history's with them before they went in for an endoscopy.
I couldn't believe how many people take several forms of medication and don't know what their pills are for. Some people knew they had certain medical conditions, but didn't know what the condition is called or even how exactly the condition affected them.
Some where not even sure why they were having a colonoscopy.
What am I thinking?
Maybe I shouldn't be surprised that so many don't know they have high blood pressure???
